On Saturday November 9th we held a book reading at Arden Fair Barnes & Noble and it was beautiful! The author Kadija Phillips and myself (Kayla Chew) would meet at this same Barnes and Noble to discuss the future of K.Angel books and now they are being sold there.
It meant everything to me to be able to create and illustrate these books to honor Kadija’s sisters life. She didn’t need to explain her vision to me because I know the pain of losing a sibling and I grew up in a home of domestic violence, mental and sexual abuse. I’m thankful and blessed to be where I am today. I never met Kaliah but I think of her as my sister. I thought of her as my sister while creating these books, because her story could have been ours. I look forward to future projects and the journey ahead of us.
